Don't Vote for Obama

We, in Ohio, are 9 days away from our primaries and this is the fax that was waiting for us in the office today ....

As a husband and wife, we write with urgency regarding a matter that greatly concerns us. Christ is our Messiah, yet many in our state today are swooning over a man who rallies have a 'messianic" appeal; a man who preaches hope and promises change.

Matthew's Gospel warns us:

CHAPTER 7

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves (15).

CHAPTER 24

Take heed that no man deceives you. For many shall come in my name, saying, i am the Christ; and shall deceive many (vs. 4-5)

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many (11)

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (v. 24)

What does this man's evangelical eloquence conceal? One who temorizes with abortion, and who would negotiate with the enemies of freedom? A man whose spiritual advisor preaches revolution, and openly admires the Nation of Islam.

Is this the hope that we long for? Is this the change that we seek?

May we appeal to you, our Christian friend, to in turn warn your friends not to be seduced by a hope that will disappoint and a change that could terrify the children of God!

With Sincerity,

From Christians in Columbus

Geez, these people are crazy. Granted, I'd rather have had the chance to vote for John Edwards, but Obama is not the evil person they say. My goodness. When did the dude (is that okay to use in reference to our future president? hmm) ever claim to be a Messiah, and at what point did they not hear him talk about his beliefs? This would be one reason why believers are the laughing stock of the world, especially stupid American ones. What's saddest is that Jesus gets lumped in with people like that, and He doesn't deserve that at all.

I know you aren't endorsing those people, but do have to admit that my heart just about jumped out of my throat when I read your title. For a second there, I was afraid you had become a Republican. And that, my friend, would be too weird for me. I can imagine you wearing a suit and singing ancient hymns with your wife in a hat and dress before I can see that. =)

Wow, at least this is something more original than perpetuating the lie that he's Muslim.

I wonder, if they think Obama is a "false prophet," which of the candidates is the "true" one?

*cynical voice*

Yup, I registered R for this election and my car is now decorated with Vote for Huckster ....

I have kept a little quiet about my political thoughts to date.

Maybe, this week with all the adds; it will push me to do some political writing

CP:

I was wondering if you received the same fax. Maybe yours is coming OR maybe someone received it and shredded it for you :)

While I am not a big Obama fan, WHAT? When did he ever claim to be anything except a guy running for president? I guess in the same vein, then Hillary Clinton, Edwards, McCain, Huckabee, and now Nader (that has a nice ring to it!) should be looked at the same way. Besides everyone already knows that the anti-christ is that guy from Romania in those books about the end times!

I have no clue. They did not leave any contact information; thus I can not contact them and ask for a dialogue.

jeff -- if you aren't fully agreeing with this, why in the world would you post it in the first place. even more, why would you link to it in a comment on my blog? i have a VERY difficult time believing that you aren't in full support of these audacious claims, or you wouldn't be promoting them all over the blogosphere.

Wow, our politics is sedate and civilised in comparison. Still, you know us: don't be rude and don't make a fuss.

Lori:

I know. I do not know where my priorities are at the present time. I will get a LOST episode recap up today :)

I do not believe one word of this material and that is why I put the tag line at the bottom; I guess it was not strong enough.

I think that the majority (if not all) in the letter is garbage and how I received the letter is wrong as well.

On my reason for the comment on your blog and putting it here - it is to show all sides.

Also, most people know my views on social issues and know that I allign with much what Obama/Clinton are saying.

Why put it out on the blog, to get discussion going. I am going to do a 'Why" series on all candiates left

- why vote
- why not to vote

for this piece, I think the Concerned Christians in Columbus are wrong and they should be ashamed of themselves for the following reasons:

- sending it to church
- using scriptures wrongly
- not giving contact info
- not specifically using his name
- not showing who they support
- and a lot more

Calmness ??

What is that ???

Thank you, that all a girl can ask.
About this fax, I find it interesting that Christians throw their believes, or should I say opinions, out there as gospel. They don't even concern themself with the truth. I have been guilty of this myself. I just wrote a post called us vs. them. I wrote about the things that we as Christians allow to devide us. Politics is one.

Fortunately, we don't really get faxes save for those we specifically ask for. But all the wacky snail mail that we get makes up for it. My favorite is from a few years ago asking me to join a crusade to keep "B.C." and "A.D." in our history textbooks.

I think the worst part about this kind of stuff is the assumption that these people make that since we're a church, surely we'll automatically sign on for this crap.

Lori:

I got the Lost piece (recap) up for you :0

Yes, throwing it out as gospel is the thing that irks me a bit.

Coffee Pastor:

Yes, the automactic support is kind of annoying.

wow -- well, not knowing you, i had no idea it wasn't your opinion, even with the little sentence at the bottom, which of course, i only read AFTER i read the entire post assuming you wrote it (which only made it feel like a "i believe all of this, but i'll distance myself a tiny bit" kind of disclaimer. maybe others who read your blog know you and wouldn't completely misunderstand you (but, then, when you link to the post on other blogs, with the line "don't vote for obama and here's the reason why", my guess is you'll have a few other visitors who misundertand your intent, smiley face or not. :)

I moved to Ohio last year from Michigan and am excited that my vote "counts." Praying over this one.

Tony:

It should be an interesting vote here. The current polls have Clinton with a good lead but there is a great undecided vote out there.
