8th Grade ... Here We Go

Yesterday, I took Isaiah and Jacob to preview day at their school. I cannot believe that it is now 8th grade. They saw old classmates, walked the halls, got their class scheduled, found their lockers and more.

Jacob: I Refuse

Jacob sings I Refuse at the school talent show. I am so proud of him that he had the courage to enter the talent show and then to enter the talent show with such a powerful meaning song.

Reach Out & Dance

On Monday, May 10th, the 4th & 5th grade classes from the Wooster City Schools did a performance and this was the closing song. I will give more information on the program and the songs when I grab the "program" from the house later. But, this is the closing song. I apologize that it is not zoomed in, but I did it on my camera and after you start; you can't zoom and I wanted the whole song.

Jacob & Blood

In the soccer game Saturday, Jacob was trying to make a defensive stop. The offensive guy from Northwestern was about 6 feet away from him and gave a powerful kick. The ball connected on Jacob's face. A great defensive play, but Jacob was hoping for a chest block stop, not a face :) There are two pics below, one of the impring of his glasses and another of us at the house after the game with his blood stains. He was proud of the battle scars.

Btw, they lost 2-1 in a hard faught game.

First Day of School 2009

On Monday, August 24th, our three kids went off to school. Isaiah and Jacob are in fifth grade and Bethany is in first grade. I cannot believe that they are in those grades. Time definitely seems to be flying by.

The first week of school seems to have been a good one with the exception of Bethany already having to miss a day of school. They like their teachers and are settling in nicely.

The boys are definitely not wanting to walk with dad and little sis, so they take a few minute lead going and coming back and they seem to be good with that and it makes mom feel more comfortable knowing that I am not too far behind.

The Gazebo & More: Spring Break 2009

Some of the things that I love about the property here are the trails and the Gazebo. The Gazebo sits above the creek and it is great to sit in the Gazebo, look at the great view and hear the water running below you.

Below are some photos of Bethany on the walk with me and the Gazebo and the view from within the Gazebo and then the boys and Bee in the snow; it is melting fast. Isaiah tried to throw a snowball at me as I took the photo - which you can see below in the pics:

Spring Break 2009: Snow

Bethany Patting Down Snow
She wanted to make it even with the snow, so she built it up and patted it down.

I Love You Dad
In the pic, you can not really see it. However, yesterday evening, she came in and said, "dad, i need to show you something outside". So, I put on my shoes and coat and was show the writing ... loved the act of love :)

Jacob Making Snowballs
He was very happy about making snowballs even though there was some ice mixed in with the snow.

Jacob Placing Snowball on Pile
He was making a pyramid with the snowballs and he was placing them down very strategically.

The Pile
At the time, he had 33 snowballs in place.

Pancake Supper: Mardi Gras Style

Last night, we had a Pancake Supper at our church. The youth and their parents put on the dinner for the church members and community. We tied the Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) in with Mardi Gras.

We, the youth, are headed to New Orleans; so we thought that it would be very appropriate. We had jazz music playing in the background half of the time and a life jazz ensemble half the time.

For us, we had a good turnout. Over 200 people came out during the night and we made about 1,000 pancakes and 800 sausage links. Here are some photos from the event. Since this is a "personal" blog; most of the pics will be of our family.

It was a fun event. We had a great time and the parents who took charge of the event did an amazing job and made the night a HUGE SUCCESS. We not only had a blast but we raised enough money to cover the hotel cost ( 3 hotel rooms - 4 nights ) for our trip.

THANK YOU

Do You Have A Pair of High Heels?

So, we just finished dinner ......

Jacob (9) says, "mom, do you have high heels"

Mom says, " umm, why do you want to know "

Jacob says, " umm, I just want to see if I can walk in them"

Gotta love dinner conversations

Day at the Pool

Jacob is now on the swim team and this was his first meet. He swam in 4 events today. There was a total of 89 events. He swam in the following:

8, 18, 44 and 88

He did very well. I was proud of him. He did not win but he finished each race and finished them with determination. To me, his biggest accomplishment was his 200m freestyle event. He was not scheduled to swim it. A teammate did not make it and they inserted Jacob into the event. He never swam 200m before in his life. Yet, he got up the block and did it.

He was also part of 2 - 200m relays. He did the back in the medley and he participated in the free as well. His other solo event was the 50m fly.

Later in the week, I may post his 200m race. I do not expect anyone to watch it. It will be for our memory of his first ever swim meet and his first ever solo race - a 200m that he was scheduled to do.

We are "newbees" to this sport. We met at the high school at 11 am and drove over to Louisville, Ohio for the event. We arrived at about 12:15 and settled in and they warmed up. The event lasted from 1:00 - 4:20. Then the travel home.

Scaring The Boys

A couple days ago, Stacey asked me to go to the storage unit and bring in the Halloween decorations. She does a great job of "fall decorating". Anyways, in the decorations was a Halloween mask that I had bought last year to wear during Trunk Or Treat.

She told me to sneak up stairs and scare the boys. They had just finished reading and was getting ready for bed. She followed me up the stairs, however she did not follow all the way because she did not want them to see her.

Thus, you will have to listen to their screams. Then wait for the delay for them to realize that it was me. They really thought that it was someone else who came into the house - for that I did feel bad.

But, I did not feel bad enough to NOT put it on the blog.

Vacation Pictures

This post is going to be pictures from the vacation. On ytop of the picture IN BOLD will be a descriptive term of the photo and then underneath the photo in italics will be more info about the pic (if so desired).

Overall the trip was great. It did rain and storm some while we were there but to me; you have to expect rain and storms and just roll with it.

Kids Ready For Trip

As Stacey was doing the final packing items, we were outside and decided to snap a few photos. Here they are ready for their journey. We were going to travel about 90 mins and then go to church and then head on out .... thus the reason for some nicer travel clothes.

Jacob: Attitude Look

Lately, Jacob has been trying to give "this look" everytime a pic is taken. Our soft loving guy likes to give a hard look every once awhile.

Jeff, the Tough Man

I tried to show a mean look .... to out do him. I am not sure who won. Stacey was not too thrilled that I had my mohawk up and a "raggy" tshirt for church - at a church we had never been. But, I wanted to see how welcomed I would feel - being a little "rough". Very welcomed and very friendly church; really amazed.

Jacob Riding His Fusion

He loves it. He had an accident the first 10 mins there. He went down a very steep hill and tore his skin off. HOWEVER, he continued to ride all week and conquered the hill. I wish that I did a video.

Jacob .. Pondering

Deep thought.

Isaiah in the Rain

rain .. rain .. rain .. go away and come back another day

Jacob and His Coral Snake

Jacob wants a real snake. Mom will not allow that in NO CARTAIN terms, so he settles for snake candy.

Jacob Crossing the Tree

We were not sure that he was going to make it, but he accomplished it.

Don't Start a Fire

Don't even think about it, mister

Bethany and Jacob Playing Frisbee

No, it is not in the pic, they are after it ... :)

Jacob on the Trail

Jacob liked the trail and even allowed a photo.

View From Our Hike

Very nice view. You can not see all the 'levels' in the pic though.

Isaiah Hiding

He loves to hide and 'spook' people; especially his younger brother. It is quite amusing to watch at times.

Corn, Anyone ?

Those Hurt

It is bound to happen chasing the frisbee into the woods.

The Fire Tower

The kids and I climbed it. I can not believe that I use to jump off of cliffs higher than the tower in college - craziness.

She looks so small .. she looks like an ant (Bethany)

Bethany and Jacob in the Truck

Ready for the trip back to the campsite through the park. Yes, we got reprimanded.

Bethany Smelling the Flowers

Bethany and the Moth

She chased creatures all week.

Bethany at the Lake

She made me cast a shadow over her so her eyes would not be blinded.

Bethany in the Rain

Rain was not going to damper her experience
