Trunk Or Treat
Tonight, we put on trunk or treat for our downtown community. We ask members of our church community to come to our back parking lot and to decorate their trunk and pass out candy while the youngsters come around and trunk or treat.
We also had a table outside set up for cookies and cider. Our church family brought out plenty of cookies and the trunk or treaters appreciated having the cookies and cider after going from trunk to trunk.
It also just so happened that Halloween fell on the last Friday of the month. For us, our church community does a dinner and a movie. Thus, after they went around the trunks, they could go downstairs and have sloppy joes and chips and cookies while watching Casper.
It was a great night. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we had a fantastic crowd. We did not do a count, even though we had talked about have a "clicker" with one of our "trunk participants". We had about 27 cars decorated and passing out candy and we had well over 200 children and their parents come out. So, overall, we had about 350(?) on our parking lot. We had a ball. We had a blast tonight. For the Zion folks who check in on the blog, THANKS for coming out tonight and providing a safe place for the kids to be. I truly appreciate your willingness to help. You made tonight a HUGE success.

Scaring The Boys
A couple days ago, Stacey asked me to go to the storage unit and bring in the Halloween decorations. She does a great job of "fall decorating". Anyways, in the decorations was a Halloween mask that I had bought last year to wear during Trunk Or Treat.
She told me to sneak up stairs and scare the boys. They had just finished reading and was getting ready for bed. She followed me up the stairs, however she did not follow all the way because she did not want them to see her.
Thus, you will have to listen to their screams. Then wait for the delay for them to realize that it was me. They really thought that it was someone else who came into the house - for that I did feel bad.
But, I did not feel bad enough to NOT put it on the blog.

Trunk-Or-Treat
Tonight, we did Trunk-Or-Treat at church. This was the first year that Zion has done Trunk-Or-Treat. Anytime that you do something for the first time, it is always a little "spooky" on how it will turn out.
For those of you who do not know, we are a downtown church. We try to do activities and ministries for the individuals who live downtown. We thought that providing a place for the kids to trick-or-treat would be a nice thing. So, we asked the church to come and park their cars, open up their trunks and pass out candy to the children. We had a great response from the church.
On Saturday, we had individuals that came to the church building and we went around the neighborhood passing out door knob hangers advertizing the event. We also contacted the paper and had fliers out at the elementary school.
We had 25 individuals that brought their cars and set it up in the parking lot. We also had numerous individuals in our church that brought candy so there would be more candy for the kidios and individuals who brought cookies for a cookie table.
It was a NO AGENDA night. No adv for our church, no fliers passing out, no pamphlets on the evil of Halloween. It was just a place where kids/parents could circle the parking lot and get candy in a "safer" enviorment. We had a very good turnout. I have no idea how many kids/teenagers/parents came through. We did not worry about a count.

Halloween 2006
Here are my kids. We had a very fun time this year. Bethany was a strawberry. Jacob was a vampire. Isaiah was a zombie pirate.
We made a few visits to fellow staff members homes before we went to the mall. At the mall, each store had someone standing in the hallway passing out candy. There were literally thousand+ kids there but it really did not seem overly crowed.
We then headed home and ate dinner and passed out some candy to local neighborhood kids who were still hitting houses after 7 pm.
A very nice and relaxing night ... all considered.
