Red & Blue God, Black & Blue Church

I have a few new books on loan to me via the library to read and this is one of them. The full title is called: Red and Blue God, Black and Blue church: Eyewitness Accounts of How American Churches are Hijacking Jesus, Bagging the Beatitudes, and Worshiping The Almighty Dollar.

Here is a snipit from the inside flap. A master of satire with a theological black belt, Becky Garrison shines a bright light on the hypocrisy fromboth sides of the political spectrum, exposing how both red and blue Christians hold hostage the teachings of Jesus in service to their own partisan gain. What's lacking is a true understanding of Christ's mandate to love all of humanity - including our enemies - which, if honored, would open the door to honest dialogue and understanding that transcends political labels.

It looks like an interesting book and hopefully it will have some info that I can chew on and contemplate and further my journey.

I also picked up a second book that I have read a few chapters of last night and it is called: Christianity for the Rest of Us: How the Neighborhood Church is Transforming the Faith. I think this book is going to help me understand where I am at right now and some beneficial steps that I can take to help our church and the community that surrounds it.

I finished the book. It was very good. For anyone out there that loves President Bush or Republican Party, I would stay away from the book unless that you really want to be challenged and rocked.
