Church Arrogance ?
We were traveling back to Ohio tonight and on our way back, we saw a church (well, we say a number of them) that caught our eye. It was their sign. Stacey was the one that actually spotted it. She told me what it said. I had to stop and take a picture of it. Maybe arrogance is not the right word to use in the title.
However, there is just something that "rubs" me when I see or hear a church that say, "you need us". Maybe, it is just me ... what says you ?

My favorite that I've seen lately is "Don't let what's wrong with you keep you from coming to worship."
Coming up with sayings for our church sign is one of my least favorite things, because I try to avoid the inside lingo, the stupid cliches, and the absolutely ridiculous like the above and the one you mention.
The sermon title is always good :)
Except that when I was in Ky part of my job was to put up the sign and the sermon titles that i had to put up were .... *shakes head*
Hmm, I thought it was Jesus we needed!
Lori:
See, you learned something new today :)
I apologize for cynicism
I understand community, belonging to church body and all that ... but the sign ....
I am sure that when they put it out, it was all in good intentions.
Just found your blog through your comment on LP's blog.
There was a sign at a Presbyterian church in my city that said "Church Parking Only - Violators Will be Baptized" That sign drove me absolutely nuts every time I passed it (almost every day) for the three weeks it was up. Since when is baptism a punishment?
Sheryl:
Thanks for stopping by. That sign would be confusing. Did you ever ask what they meant by it ?
