Work & Play

The work/play aspect of life has always interest me. I came across the following quote from James Michener.

James A. Michener

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.

At times, in my life, I think that this has been true for me. Lately, it has not been the case and I need to get back to the "spot".

WVU: Final Four

WVU is going to the Final Four and even though I picked them to go to the Final Four, I am stunned and shocked. I still have a hard time believing that they are this good. Of course, I should have believed Huggins.

The above is contributed to the following:

Bob Huggins wants to give something special to West Virginia and isn't ready to celebrate just yet. (Jim McIsaac / Getty Images)

Dan Wetzel from Yahoo sums it up in the following manner:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On his first day as coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers in 2007, Bob Huggins told his team he was here to deliver a national championship to the school and the state he loves so dear.

That was it. That was the goal. All or nothing; a standard that clashed with history (no Final Four appearances since 1959), logic (no in-state recruiting base) and geography (West Virginia is one of our smallest, poorest states).

Bob Huggins wants to give something special to West Virginia and isn't ready to celebrate just yet.

“Why can other people say it and we can’t,” Huggins argued.

So there was Huggs up on a make-shift, mid-court NCAA stage Saturday night. The NCAA East Regional trophy was in one hand, mighty Kentucky was in its locker room weeping from a 73-66 defeat and the stands were full of West Virginians singing, “Country Roads.”

It was a heck of a moment, perhaps the greatest in the program’s history. Yet he wasn’t about to get all sentimental or satisfied at making some measly Final Four. After thanking the people of West Virginia he got right to it.

“I talk to these guys about being special,” Huggins said. “Two more would really be special.”

WVU is two games away from being National Champions, can they do it ? In my mind, I go NO WAY. In my heart, I go, I hope so. Of course, I have doubted them all season and they keep proving me wrong. They won the Big East Conference Championship and made it into the Final Four by defeating Kentucky, a team that many thought was poised to win it, especially after Kansas got bounced in the second round.

Understanding Life

I have no clue about life.

On Tuesday, however, I had a high school classmate who I have not seen since high school message me on facebook. We are "friends" on facebook and she follows my statusus. Anyways, she mentioned that she always have thoughts that provoke and make her think. She then asked me for a favor.

Her favor, to find or write some encouraging words because her and alot of her friends are struggling with loss and why things happen. She told me that we lost (to death) one of our classmates. It is such a shame that a 37 year old died from leukemia.

These are the words that I chose:

“This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, Love to complete your life.”

They are words that speak and they are words that I want to share for those who are struggling in life. Life at times suck.

Oscar Romero

Archbishop Oscar Romero, an advocate for the poor and marginalized, was assassinated thirty years ago today while giving Mass in El Salvador.

Here is one of my favorite quotes from him:

Even when they call us mad, when they call us subversives and communists and all the epithets they put on us, we know we only preach the subversive witness of the Beatitudes, which have turned everything upside down.

Transparency

I do not feel that I am able to do it here in this space anymore and it is making me a little frustrated. It is tough to pin-point.

The last week was an interesting week. Stacey and myself celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary. We did not do anything major, we went out to dinner. My parents came over and watched the kids, which was really nice.

It was great to have a nice mexican meal while chatting. We had the opportunity to just sit and talk and there were some things that we needed to chat about.

Sunday Night Live is ever-changing. It is different every week and we are continually evaluating and deciding what it is and what it is going to become. It has been a great adventure over the last 6-months. I really need to write more about that and have this as a "walk to remember" for me and the ministry.

Looking ahead, 8 days till the tournament begins. I am going to take a day on Thursday to go and have some ribs, wings and a drink and enjoy the games.

More Later.

Hmmmm

That is about all that I can say. The last 72 hours or so have been very interesting. I am not sure what is going to happen or what is around the bend ..... but hey, I am on the journey, so we shall see.

Yesterday was a very interesting night at Sunday Night Live.

Yup, talking about not revealing much in both of those statements.

I cannot believe that this Friday, I will be married to my wonderful wife for 16 years? Am I really that old (looks in the mirror). Yup, plenty of gray.

Just because, I am letting my hair on my chin to grow.

It is March 1, that means March Madness is almost here, that could be fun. I will take time to "rest" this year and watch some.

Very random post today; huh ?????

I wish that I could type what I feel.
